At the beginning, it was chaos. Nammu, God of the primordial seas and of all things, created the universe. To maintain order and preserve the beauty of the universe, he gave birth to eight gods to oversee and protect his creation. Although precious, the universe was too beautiful to keep it hidden away and Nammu decided to create something even greater: life on earth. Human beings could now admire the perfection of his universe making him proud and joyful.

Scilla and Cariddi, the guardians of the sea, together with Jeje, Baal, Mazu, Ningyo, Ran and Tiamath helped Nammu in teaching and educating humans to fully appreciate, respect, love and enjoy all the things that nature had to offer. Despite their efforts, humans turned out to be ungrateful and unkind, greedy, and selfish. They destroyed everything Nammu had created and donated. Their obsession for power led to irreversible damage leaving Nammu disheartened and speechless.

He was unwilling to believe his own creation could be so evil and the excruciating pain pushed him to hide himself in the remote depth of the abysses of the ocean. The eight gods followed him and built layers of rocks between Nammu and the surface of the waters to protect him. They would stay in the abysses until the order was restored and the universe found harmony again.

The Naked Truth

In un mondo che ci ha obbligato al social distancing, abbiamo un po’ perso il valore dell’essere umano, dell’essere umani. “The Naked Truth” nasce dalla voglia di esplorare e conoscere storie, quelle intime, che racconti di rado, che ti mettono a nudo e ti obbligano quasi a svelare qualcosa di te. Ho aperto un casting online al quale le persone hanno risposto positivamente, soprattutto sul piano emotivo. La richiesta per partecipare al progetto era di raccontare la propria storia, nudi. Ma il vero soggetto della fotografia era il loro bivio, il loro ricordo, la loro memoria, quella cui erano più legati. Sono stato ad ascoltare le storie di tanti esseri umani. Mi hanno insegnato, attraverso le loro parole e il loro imbarazzo, che i legami sono la cosa più importante. Ciò che ci tiene in vita, ciò che ci rende reali, su questa terra che di reale ha ormai molto poco.

      In a world just affected by a global pandemia, in a time when we are being forced to social distancing, it looks a bit like we are losing track of humanity and what it really means to be a human being. “The Naked Truth” takes place when the need to explore and get to know the most intimate and personal stories we usually keep for ourselves, the ones that often make us show our true colors to others. I did an open casting online in which I asked for people to loess their clothes and “mask”, in order to remember whthe things they care about the most, and people risponded in a very positive way, especially when it came to emotions. I heard their stories and i learnt, through them and sometimes their “not being so confortable being naked”, that what keeps us real is the relationship with others.

Irene

La storia di Irene è molto singolare, laureata in marketing a Londra, giovane imprenditrice che ha sempre messo la faccia nelle cose che fa. Mi ha raccontato che dopo aver conseguito gli studi ha mandato Curriculum ovunque, senza mai avere riscontri; allora ha deciso di aprire una propria attività disegnando costumi da bagno, senza mai aver studiato fashion, senza mai aver studiato design. La sua piccola impresa made in Italy ha raggiunto Mykonos, Formentera, UK, Francia… Ha deciso di portare con sé il primo tessuto della prima collezione per ricordarsi -e ricordarci- che le cose con impegno arrivano ed è sempre una vittoria per sé stessi e un incentivo per gli altri.

      Irene got a marketing degree in London, she in now a business owner. After the graduation she start sending applications with no response, so, disappointed, she decided to be her on boss starting a beachwear brand. Her business reached Formentera, Mykonos, France and UK. For the shooting she brought with her the fabric used for her very first piece of clothing, to always remind herself and us what she’s capable of.

Alessio

Quando ho parlato ad Alessio del progetto, la prima cosa che gli è venuta in mente è stata “Ma portare una sedia è troppo, vero?”. È stato il suo primo pensiero. Quella sedia, dove il papà sedeva sempre e dove gli ha raccontato l’aneddoto legato all’oggetto che mi ha portato, ovvero i suoi occhiali. Il papà di Alessio, come lui, ha fatto il militare. Alessio ricorda quel paio d’occhiali rotti sul lato sinistro, così come la cicatrice sull’occhio sinistro del padre. Mi racconta che ha rischiato di perdere l’occhio in guerra e per questo sulla sua schiena, ha deciso di tatuarsi un lupo con una cicatrice proprio sull’occhio sinistro, in ricordo della sua memoria. Alessio ha perso il papà all’età di 13 anni e ricorda ancora quel momento, su quella sedia, dove gli ha raccontato l’aneddoto che porterà sempre con sé, sulle sue spalle.

      Alessio asked me “Can I bring a chair?”. It was his first thought, since that was the chair his father used to alway sit and tell him stories, like the one concerning the object he actually brought with him, a pair of glasses. Alessio’s father was in the military and one day he risked losing his left eye during war, fortunately he didn’t but his glasses broke. Alessio was just 13 when his father died and he decided to get a tattoo in his honour, a wolf with a scar on his left ear.

Diego

Diego è un ragazzo del Venezuela. Prima della pandemia è riuscito a stabilirsi a Napoli insieme al suo compagno, dove ha trovato lavoro in una pizzeria del centro. Gli manca, come è giusto che sia, la famiglia, la casa in Venezuela e così ha portato con sé i suoi pattini da velocista. Mi ha raccontato che nel suo Paese gareggiava a livello agonistico e che dava lezioni ai bambini. Devo ammettere di essere stato un po’ invidioso nel guardarlo immobile, non traballante sui pattini ma, anzi, con una dimestichezza anche nel mettersi in posa. Mi ha confidato che i suoi pattini sono la cosa che più lo avvicinano a casa e per questo ha deciso di farsi ritrarre insieme.

      Diego is from Venezuela, he got here in Naples before the pandemic together with his fiancee and found a job in a pizzeria in the historic center. He misses his family and his hometown a lot, of course and he surprisingly brought his roller skates, in which he used to run competitive and used to tech little kids, reason why he choose to bring them. I have to admit I was a bit jealous watching him standing still on his rollers, posing for me.

Francesco

Io e Francesco abbiamo parlato a lungo del progetto già giorni prima degli scatti. Era molto incuriosito dalla cosa si è voluto mettere in gioco. Aveva già fatto degli scatti con altri fotografi, ma non si era mai prestato al nudo. Francesco è un ragazzo molto timido e, seppur parlasse poco, ha mostrato una grande intensità d’animo. Ha deciso di farsi ritrarre con un libro in particolare, “Le Rouge et le Noir” di Stendhal. Grazie a questo libro è riuscito a capire molte cose di sé stesso, mi ha raccontato di una situazione familiare in passato non molto agiata e della sua voglia di riscatto dalla società e del raggiungere il successo nella vita. Questo libro è stato un po’ il suo “psicologo” che l’ha aiutato a conoscersi e attraverso quelle parole ha trovato conforto.

      Francesco and me, we discussed about the project for a long time before shooting. He was really curious so he really got himself in the game. He already had some experience in modeling for other photographers -friends almost-, but he never posed naked because he is really shy, but he revealed areally deep soul. He brought with him a book, “Le rouge et le noir” by Stendhal, a book that helped him understand a lot of things about himself; his family was not the welthiest so he tried to redime himself and succede.

Martina

Questo è il racconto di Martina che ha deciso di farsi immortalare con suo figlio, nato durante la pandemia, dopo una serie di vicissitudini familiari che le hanno portato via il papà. Martina è sempre stata una guerriera, sempre focalizzata sui suoi sogni mantenendoli accesi, nonostante tutte le responsabilità e le vicissitudini che la vita le ha portato. Alla notizia della grave malattia del padre, si è come ingrigita, spenta e, quando le è venuto a mancare, è stata come travolta in un vortice di sensazioni negative e per tanto tempo si è chiusa in sé stessa, come se avesse snaturato il suo essere. La nascita di Armando per lei è stata come ritrovare la luce. Le ha ricordato il valore della vita e la sua relatività. Le cose accadono e poi passano, il cerchio è quello, muta sempre ma poi passa. Le ha ricordato che la vita fa parte del presente e non del passato e va apprezzata giorno per giorno. È facile pensare che quando muore un padre, di  poter vivere nell’angoscia e focalizzarsi solo alla mancanza. È molto più apprezzabile, invece col tempo, vedere ciò che ti ha lasciato, i ricordi, gli insegnamenti. E, nel caso di Martina, rivedersi mamma negli occhi del figlio che, inevitabilmente, la riporta a lui.

      Martina chose to be photographed with her baby, born during the pandemic. She has always been a warrior, keeping her dreams lit even when life was hard and the peak was when her father got sick and died, that’s when she felt this big bump in her lungs that made her feel like she was not herself… but then the baby, Armando, came and brought joy back into her life, reminding her that grief is real and stucco in you, but it can be lighten up.

Alessandro

Alessandro è rimasto entusiasta del progetto sin da quando gliene ho parlato. Da tempo speravamo di scattare insieme e grazie a The Naked Truth abbiamo stretto un forte legame, una forte sintonia. Mi ha raccontato della sua infanzia, degli attacchi di panico che aveva da piccolo perché non voleva andare a scuola o semplicemente uscire di casa, che ha scoperto poi fossero dovuti all’assenza dei genitori sempre fuori per lavoro. Mi ha parlato della terapia con una psicologa e mi ha raccontato dei diari e degli appunti che scriveva per superare la cosa. Abbiamo deciso, allora, di racchiudere tutte quelle storie, tutta la sua sofferenza e i momenti che l’hanno segnato in un’ampolla di vetro. Fogli, diari, telefoni dove scriveva le sue note più intime. In un involucro trasparente dove tutti potessero vederle. E lui demonizzarle.

      Alessandro felt enthusiastic about the project from the very beginning, we both hoped in shooting together and eventually we bonded even more. He told me everything about his childhood, the panic attacks and his tendency to isolate himself, related to his parents being out working. He told me about the time he got into therapy and used to write all the negative stuff in a secret diary, papers, notes on the phones; so we choose to “trap” all his suffering in a glass bottle, for everyone to see and demonize them.

Sara

Sara è una semplice ragazza universitaria, le sue relazioni non sono mai durate più di sei mesi. Dopo la morte del padre le è risultato difficile affezionarsi alle persone, così ha trovato conforto nei gatti. Ha deciso di farsi ritrarre con uno di loro, Timon, che ha un occhio solo. Dopo il lutto, mi ha confessato di essersi isolata molto, ha rifiutato a lungo l’affetto di qualsiasi persona intorno, anche della madre e del fratello. Sostiene che, nonostante avesse avuto da piccola paura dei gatti, sono stati l’anestetico perfetto per superare le situazioni, fino a diventare il suo porto sicuro.

      Sara is a student, she never really had a long lasting love relationship, because she found it difficult to bond with other people after her father’s death; so she choose to be photographed with her cats, in particular one of them, Timon. Timon is a one-eyed cat who has become her lifeline and helped her go through her darkest times.

Oniric Vision – GQ Brasil

Oniric Vision is a journey inside our own imagination and deepest desires. The clashing colors, the raw fabrics and the opposite styles, all come together in an oniric scenery: the desert represents a pure soul who changes his mind and attitude as the colors of the background change. Blue, green, red are some of the colors of the styling that represent the random variation of our minds while we’re dreaming. The unconstructed tailoring, typically used to represent elegance and masculinity (Prada look), is now broke down (Alexander McQueen look) then fixed and renewed (Louis Vuitton look, Versace look). In the two profile pictures (Issey Miyake look/ Armani look), shoot with different kinds of lightning, we can see a lot of similar features such as the angle, the styling with long feminine earrings , but at the same time one represents the first phase of the dream, while the second represents the second phase of the dream, the deepest one. Sometimes In dreams we try to get away from something that appears to be dangerous (Ferragamo look) and get stuck in it (Dior look), some other times we get hints about our unspoken fantasies and desires as shown in the silhouette shoot (Zegna).”
